Best ways to Hide Files and Folders in Android

Today Mobile phones have become an important part of our lives. We seriously cannot live without them for a single day. These devices are not just used for making calls and sending messages. They are also used for entertainment.Mobile phones have also became as a storage device, where we can store our files like documents, images, videos and audios. There are many uses of this little device.
Many people store their important documents, images, music and videos on their mobile phones. Some of the files can be very private and not to be accessed by others. We want to keep them private hidden from others. In Android, when you store images and videos on your SD card, it scans all the files and displays your images and videos in Gallery application. The problem is they can be easily viewed from there.

How to Hide Files and Folders in Android :

Now what can you do to hide your files and folders from others. Today I will show you four methods to do this. First three methods doesn’t need any software. Fourth method is by using third party applications.
Almost all the android phones comes with an inbuilt file manager. But the file manager that comes inbuilt has only basic functionality. Some phones have some additional file managers like X-plore, ES File Explorer or My Files. They have more features.

Method 1 :

Open any file manager like I have mentioned above. If you don’t have, I will give links to download them from play store.
Download X-plore
After opening the file manager, Go to the folder you want to hide. Just long tap the folder and select Rename option. Add a dot (.) before the folder name. For example, if the name of the folder is Videos, just rename it to .videos and click OK. Your folder is hidden. And you won’t be able to see it in Gallery application. By default all the folders starting with dot will be hidden in android. So to view them, you have to go to File manager’s settings and select the option to Show Hidden Files. This option may be different in different file manager. To unhide the folder, just remove the dot from the folder. Now it will be shown in Gallery.
Note that this trick works only on folders not files. If you want to hide files, then create a folder and copy all your private files in it and follow the method.

Method 2 :

The second method is also very simple. Just go to the folder which you want to hide. Open the folder and create a new text file. Leave the file empty. Do not write anything. Save it with the name as .nomedia
If you do not know how to do this, just download the .nomedia file from below link and place it in the folder which you want to hide.
A .nomedia is a blank file which is generally placed inside a folder to hide its contents in gallery. Android scans all the folders and when it finds a .nomedia file in a folder, it doesn’t scan that folder and the contents like images, audio and video is not shown in the gallery application.
In this method the folder is not hidden but the contents are hidden in gallery. But in previous method the whole folder disappears. And this trick is not for files, it works only on folders. So as you have done in previous method, just copy all your private files in a folder and copy the .nomedia file in that folder.

Method 3 :

This is the method which I generally follow. It is as simple as ABC. You just rename the file with an extension which your android phone cannot open. For example if you android file doesn’t recognize .zip extension then you can use the method. Just rename the file with .zip extension. If there is an image file with name mypic.jpeg, then rename it to mypic.zip and move it to a different folder to see the effect. If there is a video file with name myvideo.mp4 then rename it to myvideo.zip
Note that this trick is for only files and not for folders. And also note that files are not hidden, they are just not shown in gallery application.

Method 4 (Using Third Party Applications) :

Third method is to hide files and folders using third party applications. There are lots of android apps available in Play Store which are used to hide files and folders with a password. You can use them if you want a full protection and if you are afraid that the above tricks might be known to others and they can view your files.
You can download your favorite folder locking application from play store by clicking the below link :
You can follow any of the above four methods to hide your files and folders in android phone.
Note :
1. If you are seeing the hidden files in gallery after following the above method, then just move the folder to other location and then move it back to the same location.
2. In third method, you can use any extension that is not recognized by your android phone.
Hope you liked the trick. If you find it useful, please like it and share it on your social networks.

Easy way to Backup Your Facebook Data

The wizards at Facebook have provided a way to archive all of the stuff that you, and in many cases, your friends, have ever posted to your Facebook. According to Facebook, this content includes:
  • Your profile information
  • Wall posts and content that you and your friends have posted to your profile
  • Photos and videos that you have uploaded to your account
  • Your friend list
  • Notes you have created
  • Events to which you have RSVP’d
  • Your sent and received messages
Any comments that you and your friends have made on your Wall posts, photos, and other profile contentSo how do you backup all your Facebook data? Here is a quick and easy procedure to backup all the items mentioned above:
1. Login to your Facebook account.
2. Click the "Account" drop-down menu located in the top-right corner of your Facebook page.
3. Click on " Settings".

4. From the "Settings" tab, Look for the line that says "Download a copy of your Facebook data." and click the link .

5. Click the "Download" button on the page that follows.

After you click "Download", you will receive a Facebook pop-up message stating that they are "gathering" all your information into a ZIP formatted file for you to download. The message says it may take awhile and that they will send you an e-mail when the file is ready to be downloaded.
The length of time it takes to build the archive file will depend on how much data (videos, pictures, etc) that you have posted to your account. For people who have been using facebook for several years, this could take a few hours or more. Mine took about 3 hours before it said it was ready for download. Make sure you have ample room on your computer's hard drive to store the data file that you are about to download.
Before you can download you Facebook data file, Facebook will force you to prove your identity through a couple of security measures such as inputting your password and having you identify some of your friends by their pictures. These security measures help to prevent hackers from obtaining the backup file which would basically provide them with a digital dossier of your Facebook life to take with them offline.

6. Activate Private Browsing

Another way to prevent another person from accessing your account is by activating the ‘Private Browsing’ option from your browsers. All browsers have this private browsing option, and by activating this option, your activity will not be logged into the browsing history.

7. Don’t ‘Keep Me Logged In’

The moment you want to login to your Facebook account, at the Log In page, there’s a small checkbox that says Keep me logged in. Make sure this box is unchecked. Then, log in as usual. With this on, you will be asked for your email and password every time you launch Facebook.

8. Avoid Spam Links

Facebook is serious about spam and is always enhancing its features to make sure you are safe from being a victim to scams. The types of attacks include money scams through direct or indirect requests via Facebook messages, chat etc, phishing links that will redirect you to fake websites, malicious links that could retrieve your personal information or even harm your computer. There are also chances you may receive emails from ‘Facebook’ but it is actually from a phishing website, this modus operandi is part of a scam.
Facebook Security
There are many ways you can avoid being a victim:
  1. Never click on suspicious links whenever or wherever you find it, even if it came from your friends. If you receive a link, always take the extra step of asking your friend what the link is to confirm that they had sent it. Usually these links are ‘sent’ without the sender’s knowledge. This includes all links that appear in your Facebook Chat, Messages, friend’s status post or even from your email.
  2. Never give out your username or password to anyone, including websites with suspicious links and layouts. Giving your passwords freely could jeopardize the security of your personal information on Facebook.
  3. Log in only at www.facebook.com and not from any other link or website, unless you are accessing via Facebook App.
  4. Update your browser to its latest version to ensure your browser’s security is up to date so it would detect and alert you with a warning when you are navigating to a suspected phishing site.

9. Sign Out After Use

Lastly which is the most important of all (and definitely worth repeating), never forget to log out from your Facebook account.
Log out

Conclusion

Now with these 8 options plus one crucial reminder to log out, you can surf your Facebook worry-free. Most of us wouldn’t have thought that our online accounts would get hijacked, but if the recentLinkedIn security breach proves anything, it is that there are people out there on the Web who are actively trying to gain access to our sensitive information. Let’s not make it any easier for them.

How to Bypass Android Pattern Lock

Android introduces a cool new feature to ensure protection of private data to it's users by Pattern Lock technique. It is a unique thinking , other than remembering or setting difficult combination of password characters whether in numeric or alphabetic form. Pattern lock provides a huge set of patterns to choose from. User may set any unique and different pattern according to their wish anytime.

With advantage of locking screen using this unique way , there is also a problem that sometimes many of android users have to face i.e. what if they forget the pattern they had used to lock their device or try to unlock it with wrong pattern number of times that turned device to get locked permanently ? If you stuck in such problem so dont worry there are three methods to unlock your device.

Method 1. Unlock Lock Pattern Using Your Email

Unlock Lock Pattern
Unlock Lock Pattern Using Your Email
First method includes a simple way of logging in to your Google account and then getting RID of that lock pattern. This is easiest and most recommended way of unlocking your device. So if you have entered wrong pattern for 5 times and then if it is showing you the Forgot Lock Pattern option, then you can login through your Google account and bypass the lock pattern system on your device.

Method 2. Unlock Lock Pattern Using Command Prompt

If you have forgotten your email too and unable to log in to your google account then the second method could be handy that includes executing few lines of script in command prompt which will allow you to write any pattern and to get into your OS . As this method includes use of command lines , so it is not that user friendly but it is the most effective way for sure. It involves a few steps :

Step 1: Connect your Android Phone to Your Computer.
Step 2 : Open command prompt as administrator.
Step 3 : Now in command prompt window type the following code carefully exactly as it is and then press  enter.

adb shell
cd /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases
sqlite3 settings.db
update system set value=0 where name='lock_pattern_autolock';
update system set value=0 where name='lockscreen.lockedoutpermanently';
.quit

Step 4 : Now you will some screen as shown below and then you can reboot your phone and now when your will start again then try unlocking your phone using any random lock pattern and it will work pretty fine.
Unlock Lock Pattern Using Command Prompt

Step 5 : If you face any problem repeat same steps but instead of the above code try using adb shell rm /data/system/gesture.key and then press enter and now try rebooting your device to see if it works.

Method 3. Unlock Using Hard Reset Option

Hard Reset is an inbuilt feature of android phones and tablets and every device has it. This method will unlock your device but will remove all user's data and settings as well. You should use this method when none of the above methods work for you and you need to unlock your device urgently. This will remove only the data from phone memory and not from the SD card available in phone.
It involves a few steps to unlock device :

Step 1 : Switch off your phone.

Step 2 : Now while turning your phone on , you need to press some specific combination of keys. Generally it is volume up + power button in many of the android devices so try them first and if they dont work for you so here are list of some popular device combination keys or else better way is to google it.
  • Nexus 7 - Volume Up + Volume Down + Power
  • Samsung Galaxy S3 - Volume Up + Home + Power
  • Motorola Droid X - Home + Power
Step 3 : Now when your phone starts up and you see the logo of your phone , leave the power but but continue holding the volume up button until you see android recovery screen.
you will see some screen like shown above. Just navigate to wipe data/factory reset using volume keys and then press Power button to select it.

Step 4 : You will see a screen as shown below :
Step 5 : After you reach to Yes option , select it by using power switch and then it will erase all data on your phone and will unlock it and so ready to be used once again .

So these were possibly all methods for unlocking Android device and to Bypass the pattern lock of android device but if you know any other methods so please do comment below and I will add your method too .
